Supplements for Stress
By Liz Bygrave, with advice from nutritional therapist Valerie Cottez
Stress depletes our bodies of vital nutrients so it makes sense to take supplements if you’re going through a difficult period.
All the B vitamins are good for stress, but B5 is particularly good: in combination with vitamin C it’s great for the adrenals, the part of the body where stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin are manufactured. (NB If you’re already taking a multivit, don’t take a B complex supplement on top of that. Vitamin B5 on its own is safe to take in addition to a multivit as long as you don’t exceed the recommended daily amount.) B vitamins are also good for energy levels as they help us to extract nutrients from the food we eat.
Stress also depletes magnesium. Since this is the nutrient most of us tend ot be short of anyway, seriously think about supplementing with this mineral if you’re under stress.
With thanks to local nutritional therapist Valerie Cottez for the above information.
